As already reported in April 2023, seeds of several species were collected in Goričko last year and their seedlings raised in 2023 to be transplanted onto recipients meadows.

In the second half of May employees of the Public Institute of Nature Park Goričko and DOPPS transplanted 720 seedlings of eleven different species onto two recipient meadows, including three pinks that occur on Goričko’s acidic soil – Carthusian pink Dianthus carthusianorum, maiden pink D. deltoides and Deptford pink D. armeria. Seedlings’ condition was checked in the middle of June and we were delighted to find them all grown and vital. This can undoubtedly be attributed to constant rain in May, which provided regular watering in the most tender period of their rooting.

Apart from those 11 species, ten more germinated but were not big enough to be transplanted in May. They will either be transplanted in autumn or be used to produce larger quantity of seeds to be sown onto recipient meadows next year. The latter option is more likely, as seedlings in quite small pots will be otherwise difficult to keep alive during the hot summer.
