Some plant species that we encounter while collecting seeds for our seed bank, have fleshy fruits – e.g. all three species of strawberry that grow in Slovenia, blueberries and lingonberries. Entire fruits are collected in the field; from those, seeds need to be extracted as soon as possible. We do that by squashing the fruit through a fine sieve. Afterwards, the seeds and the remaining pulp are washed under running water for several minutes, leaving only seeds on the sieve at the end. We place them on an absorbent towel or cloth and then on paper where they are left to dry.
