During the school holidays, we presented the LIFE FOR SEEDS project at a holiday week in the Dina Center in Pivka, which is organized by the Pivka Tourist Board in cooperation with various partners. We held a science workshop aimed at learning about honeybees, wild pollinators and their role in the seed formation, as well as the importance of biodiversity in general.
At the workshop, we first introduced the children to the plants and animals of the Notranjska Regional Park through the seasons – from spring to autumn. Then, using a game that we developed as part of the LIFE SEMENA project, the children explored the characteristics of pollinators – European honeybee, butterflies, beetles, bumblebees and solitary bees – through a series of questions on laminated cards and a board with clues and possible answers. The correct answer led participants to the next question, and at the end, they used the clues to correctly classify the pollinators in the picture with their characteristic plants.
After the game, we went for a walk to the nearby apiary at the Pivka elementary school, where the children learned more about the world of bees, we even explored the forest edge and played by the stream for a while. We ended the day with a relaxing coloring book showing animals typical of the Notranjska Regional Park.
Thank you to the Dina Center for the invitation to the holiday week and to the children for the pleasant and educational socializing!
