The exhibition is part of the project Conservation of Priority Grassland Habitats in Slovenia through the Establishment of a Seed Bank and In Situ Restoration (LIFE20 NAT/SI/000253), known more succinctly as LIFE FOR SEEDS project. The event coincided with this year’s Earth Day, whose slogan »Our Power, Our Planet« perfectly reflects the mission of the LIFE FOR SEEDS project. Our ability to restore meadows, collect seeds, and preserve them in a seed bank for future generations brings new hope – and renewed strength – for the future of our planet.

The exhibition is beautifully set along a winding path shaded by canopies of trees in the park beside the Theatre and Concert Hall in Lendava. Its central theme is grasslands – a vibrant, yet often overlooked component of our natural heritage.
Large photographs show the project’s key activities: grassland restoration, the conversion of fields into biodiverse meadows, and the collection of wild plant seeds stored in a seed bank.

The project area in Goričko is primarily focused on the restoration of dry grasslands classified as Natura 2000 habitat type 6210(*) (important orchid habitats), with additional efforts on wet and extensively managed meadows also under Natura 2000 protection.

Now in its penultimate year, the project is already showing tangible results – both in the number of collected seed samples and in the revitalised biodiversity of restored meadows. These grasslands are now noticeably more colourful and species-rich. While regular mowing remains the best method for ongoing maintenance, the project has demonstrated that even meadows in poor condition can be successfully restored in a relatively short time.

We warmly invite you to enhance your daily walk with a visit to this inspiring exhibition. Immerse yourself in the vivid imagery of flourishing meadows – landscapes that may seem like distant memories in today’s modern world, yet still thrive among us. Discover the dedication behind their restoration, a process that is complex, demanding, and time-consuming and could largely be avoided through more nature-friendly land management practices.

The exhibition will remain on display in the park at the heart of Lendava until mid-September, welcoming all visitors to reflect on the beauty and importance of our grasslands.
