In 2023, seedlings of purple moor grass Molinia caerulea, devil’s-bit scabious Succisa pratensis and Davall’s sedge Carex davalliana were grown from seed. As these are relatively slow growing plants, we waited until spring 2024 to plant them on the recipient plot in the Nature Reserve Iški morost.

At the end of April, we created around 20 smaller bare patches on a former arable field by removing ruderal and, in parts, invasive alien plants (annual fleabane, goldenrod). Patches were planted with 88 seedlings of purple moor grass, 37 seedlings of devil’s-bit scabious and 12 seedlings of Davall’s sedge. Our long-term goal is to establish a Molinia meadow (HT 6410) with elements of alkaline fens (HT 7230), as was once present on this location.

We are aware that this is a very ambitious goal that will take many years to achieve, due to high level of soil nutrients and the presence of many competitively stronger plants.
